The solution to problems of life and society for the members of the Church of God at Colossae was not Gnosticism, Asceticism, or Hedonism. The solution to the division in society and in the church that were based on the factual realities of Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free was not the creation of another government program. The solution was to live based on the character of the new man—based on the fact that Christ considered them the elect of God, holy and beloved. It is the same solution for God’s people today.
